As a local, I've always wanted to try this place when I saw it from Kaimana beach. We finally decided to give it a try and it lived up to all our high expectations. The ambiance is unbeatable. You're right on the beach in a more private calm area compared to the middle of the Waikiki strip. The best time to go is for sunset, absolutely gorgeous. Food tasted fresh and was so delicious. We had numerous dishes but my personal favorite was the kale salad, focaccia bread, and crab pasta. We also had the cookies and cream dessert - two chocolate cookies w homemade ice cream. We came at around 6pm on a Tuesday evening and all the food came out at once very fast!

So I booked a table in advance to make sure we got to see the sunset for dinner and the view from our table was immaculate. We basically had everything on the menu and it was great! Oysters are a must with the yuzu kosho...spectacular, give me 14 of them. We had a birthday and they made it extra special with the hand written card from the and it really made our friend's night. The service was great and we had a wonderful time here. I couldn't drink any alcoholic beverages they had but our table said they were delicious. Would come again and I would recommend as well.

Hau Tree was one of our favorite dinners in Oahu! I loved the ambiance- you get to be outdoors by the beach, but still within the grounds of the hotel so it's still very comfortable and shady. We made a reservation about a month in advance because we wanted to catch the sunset. I kept my expectations for the food low since it was a hotel restaurant, but I was pleasantly surprised! Some of our favorites: Focaccia Bread - this was the star! We weren't going to order it initially but caved after seeing a couple other tables order. The bread was freshly baked and piping hot. We also loved the balsamic butter it came with! Perfect spread for the bread. Roasted Potatoes - Hau Tree does their carbs right :) was very impressed by their potatoes- freshly prepared, big portion, and came with a yummy hollandaise sauce. You can ask for the sauce on the side if you want! Crab Tagliatelle - the pasta itself was only okay, but it came with a ton of crab. Was a great pasta option!

I visited Hau Tree restaurant for the first time and wanted to see the sunset from their outside seating--it did not disappoint. The service was top-notch, and our server was super attentive. Since we had already eaten, we ordered drinks and an appetizer. Their Spanish crispy octopus was beyond words--crispy and perfectly complemented by the sauce. The drinks were good too; I had their Mai Tai, and you could really taste the alcohol. I enjoyed the service and the ambiance. Our table was in a perfect spot to watch the sunset and people-watch at the beach. I would come again for the experience and to try more of their food. The restaurant is located inside a hotel, and parking is via valet, but if you can find street parking, you're set.

This place is definitely a must go when in Hawaii. The food was delicious. The ambiance and outdoor beach setting during sunset was so pretty. Mango Tequila Sunrise & Mojito- 4/5: Both drinks were good. Roasted Potatoes- 4/5: These were very good with crispy outside texture. It was even better with the sauce. King Salmon- 5/5: The salmon was a nice soft texture. Came with carrots and sauce. Ancient Greek Salad + Salmon- 5/5: Same as salmon review but with veggies. Toasted Coconut Cake- 5/5: The best coconut cake I have ever had. I will admit this was pretty pricey for the size, but I'd still get it again. The coconut flavor was very strong and it was creamy. It was my favorite thing all night. Yuzu Tart- 3/5: Personally this was too sour for me and definitely paled in comparison to the coconut cake.

Hau Tree The Hau Tree restaurant is situated inside the Kaimana Beach Hotel that is near one of my most favorite beaches, the Sans Souci or also known as the Kaimana Beach. With conservation measures well in place, one of Hawaii's endangered species of Hawaiian Monk seal has returned over the last few years to deliver a new pup on this beach property. I asked the hostess if there was a new pup this year and she said yes! A good section of the beach where the Hau Tree restaurant looks over, gets cordoned off so no one is allowed to disturb the mom or her pup. The hostess pointed to where we were lucky enough to glimpse mom swimming in the water near the coastline while her pup was seen several yards away, floating on another corner of the beach, camouflaged so well it was hard to tell which was the baby seal or the other rocks until he would flip over. It was so thrilling to see! Food: They are known for their Egg Benedicts. We both chose the Spinach Benedict that comes with a house salad and breakfast potatoes. There was a nice blend of sautéed spinach, garlic, harissa, chives and their version of hollandaise sauce on an English muffin. Those potatoes enjoyed some time sautéed in butter since the edges had just the right amount of crispy goodness and buttery goodness. Presented very nicely and it was most delicious. The views of the ocean and nice quiet conversation with my sister has become a tradition for us. Parking is valet, I believe, but my sister is a member of the Elks club nearby so we parked there. There is also street parking along Kalakaua Avenue and spots that are walking distance to the hotel. The wait staff personnel were very nice and accommodating. They checked on us periodically and were helpful in offering suggestions from the menu. Talking with the hostess about the very special Hawaiian Monk seal guest and her pup was a rare opportunity to share with us. Choosing the Hau Tree Lanai is the perfect place to sit and relax, away from the noise of Waikiki and enjoy the Island surroundings. Fresh local ingredients are truly presented to compliment their fresh appeal. Mama seal may be around for just a bit longer and is a rare opportunity to see such a beautiful wildlife creature and her newest member of her Ohana.
